Guardians of the Mistwood by Fotosbymau

Three cows stand peacefully in the mysterious landscape of Fanal Forest on Madeira. Surrounded by a gentle mist and with a distinctive, centuries-old laurel tree as a backdrop, a serene and almost timeless scene unfolds. The mist shrouds the landscape, revealing only the most important elements: the three grazing animals and the tree’s whimsical shape.

The simplicity of this composition lends the photograph a special sense of tranquillity. The cows appear completely at ease in the ancient forest, whilst the mist lends the surroundings an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. The solitary tree forms a natural focal point whilst simultaneously emphasising the vastness and stillness of the landscape.

Fanal Forest is one of Madeira’s most remarkable nature reserves and is renowned for its ancient laurel trees, grazing cows and mysterious mist. This photograph captures that unique combination in a tranquil and atmospheric way. A special piece of wall art for lovers of Madeira, nature, misty landscapes and photo-'s in which animals and the landscape come together naturally.

An image that exudes tranquillity whilst at the same time sparking curiosity about the hidden landscape behind the mist.
