Wind turbines on a dike south of the Volkerak locks. The turbines stand along the Steigerweg road connecting Willemstad and Dintelsas. Some vegetation is hidden behind Fort Sabina on the left. This part of the Zuider Waterlinie, on the border between South Holland and North Brabant and where across the water Zeeland is not far away, is now a protected nature reserve. Today, coots in particular find it a good place to live in the now so calm waters of the Volkerak. The name 'Hellegatsplein', for motorists a familiar name for a traffic junction, refers to times of yore for good reason. The salty sea water that converged at this place via Haringvliet and Volkerak also met the river water that flowed to the sea via Hollandsdiep here.
