About ‘HET WATERPALEIS Tirtagangga’ by Annie Lausberg-Pater

"Het is gebouwd op de plek van een heilige bron, iets van de hoofdweg, en is eigenlijk meer een watertuin, een mengeling van terrassen, vijvers, leuke struiken, water dat borrelt uit de mond van gebeeldhouwde waterbuffels en nimfen, en een vijver vol flitsende oranje en witte karpers. "

De koning van Karangasem liet in 1948 zijn waterpaleis bouwen. Zijn volledige naam is: Ida Anak Agung Anglurah Agung Ketut Karangasem (Ida, kind van Zonnekoning Anglirah, kind en zoon van het dorp Karangasem). Het was de laatste radja van Karangasem.
Het waterpaleis is een unieke combinatie van Balinese en Chinese stijlen. In de jaren 40 was het een leuk weekendverblijf voor de laatste raja´s van Bali om te rusten en te relaxen. Het diende eveneens als ontvangstplaats van belangrijke gasten. Het vredige waterpaleis ligt in een mooi landschap te midden van spectaculaire, op terrassen aangelegde sawa?s.
