Hansweert is a village on the Westerschelde, in the municipality of Reimerswaal in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The history of the village is strongly influenced by the construction of two canals: the Canal through Zuid-Beveland brought prosperity and growth from 1866, the Scheldt-Rhine Canal, which was dug further to the east, attracted a lot of shipping traffic from 1975 onwards and led to a period of decline.
