Blue-black blueberries bobbing in a glass of pale pink tonic, crowned with mint and a casual straw. I got the idea during a food festival where cocktails were served as little works of art. In this work, I chose smooth brushstrokes, giving the ice a crystalline effect and making the drink seem to tingle. The subtle colour gradient from apricot to lavender in the background reflects that transition from day to evening, when the first party lights come on.
The work fits into a variety of interiors: from a bright student room to an atmospheric coffee bar. Especially against a neutral wall, the soft glow stands out without becoming garish. The feeling I want to evoke is relaxed curiosity - like taking a first sip of an unfamiliar but promising mix. This work is part of a series.
