The goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) is a medium-sized bird of prey from the family of the hawks (Accipitridae). An adult specimen can have a length between 49 and 66 cm. A hawk has short, broad wings and a long, almost rectangular tail. An adult hawk has a white line above the eye, a black crown and dark feathers in the ear region. The plumage of a male is brown at the top and pale white at the bottom with thin grey stripes. The female is much larger with a slate grey plumage at the top and grey at the bottom. A young hawk has a brown plumage at the top and is striped brown at the bottom. In addition, the white eye stripe is less conspicuous.
