Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (1821-1909) was a Dutch painter who is best known for her realistic depictions of animals, especially cats. She grew up in an artistic family and was the daughter of the painter Jozef Ronner. Her works are characterised by detailed depictions of animals and scenes from everyday life, often in an intimate, domestic setting. In addition to her animal paintings, she also painted portraits and landscapes. Ronner-Knip was recognised in the Netherlands and beyond and was one of the few female artists of her time to pursue a successful career in academic painting.
