On the occasion of the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, the metropolitan network was built. You can clearly see that the design of the metro stop signs comes from that era. The nostalgic look of the cast-iron pole with the bright red sign and light globe placed on top make this sign unmistakably part of Paris.
The metro in Paris is THE mode of transport to get around quickly in this metropolis of millions. Unfortunately, there were no escalators available when it was built in 1900, which means that, especially in the old centre of Paris, transferring to another metro line often involves a lot of up and down stairs and quite a few walks to the next platform. Especially with travelling with a heavy suitcase, the bus can be a good alternative.
