Hieronymus of Beverningk, Jan de Baen, 1670
This looks like a regal portrait. Nevertheless, Hieronymus van Beverningk only had the function of ambassador of the States General of the Netherlands. With great success he had taken part in peace negotiations, of which the state documents on the table bear witness. The beautiful list underlines the dignity of the person portrayed, whose motto can be read at the bottom: 'Don't look outside yourself'.
