An old sign with beautiful rust patterns and the text, in Dutch, "HIGH VOLTAGE DANGEROUS". Fifty shades of rust brown, from bright orange to deep red. Also touches of white, grey, beige and even a kind of sallow green, caused by dirt, dust, clay and lime. This sign, it seems, has defied the elements for decades.
Of course, the text refers to the electrical equipment behind the sign. But the words can also be interpreted more broadly. Because the Dutch word "spanning"can refer to both voltage and tension. And also the latter can be life-threatening. Nothing wrong with a little healthy competitive tension, of course, but if it becomes structural, stress can be a silent killer. It can't hurt to be reminded of that from time to time, via this photo.
