Hills in southwestern Slovenia, in the Ilirska Bistrica region. The highest mountain in the background must be Mount Snežnik, 1,796 metres high and part of the Dinaric Alps. I took the photo in early May at 7:30 'in the morning. The morning mist was slowly dissolving in the rising sunlight. The phenomenon you see in this photo is called atmospheric perspective or aerial perspective: the foreground has relatively high contrast, as you look further 'into the photo' the contrast fades further and further and the image gradually becomes 'flatter'. In a hilly landscape, such'a perspective comes out extra well, provided you are in the right place at the right time. In my case, a fluke :) It often produces an image where you can dream away, longing for distant destinations.
