A home made English breakfast prepared by the mother-in-law in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Basically, the world famous English breakfast is a hearty and rich breakfast. Traditionally it consists of sausages, fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, bacon, mushrooms and buttered toast. It is often accompanied by white or black pudding and hash browns. While it is usually referred to as a full English breakfast, in the different regions of the UK and Ireland it is also named according to the region, i.e. full Scottish, full Welsh, full Irish etc. There are also differences in this breakfast classic depending on the region: In Scotland, for example, tattie scones (a kind of potato pancake) and haggis are served with it, while the Welsh enjoy their breakfast with laverbread (a dish made of seaweed). This is often accompanied by coffee, tea or even orange juice. Breakfast can also be vegetarian or vegan. Simply replace sausages, bacon and butter with vegetable alternatives. For a vegan version, either omit the egg or use scrambled tofu as an egg substitute.
