Hummingbirds (Trochilidae) are a family of birds native to both Americas's. Many species have an awl-shaped bill and variegated plumage. Hummingbirds are distinctly small birds; their size varies between that of a bumblebee and a swallow. Most species reach a length of 7 to 13 cm. Hummingbirds specialise in sucking out nectar from flowers, but many species also eat insects.
