Engbertsdijksvenen is a piece of a former large moorland. It lies near Kloosterhaar. The Engbertsdijksvenen was almost completely excavated between 1850 and 1950. The edges of the area were completely excavated. That's why the area with the remaining high moors rises far above the landscape.
The area still has a piece of peat that has remained. High peat is still actively growing there. This is very rare. If there is sufficient moisture, this peat will continue to grow. Besides raised bog, the area also consists of wet heather with some drier parts here and there. Along the edges of the area are a few small birch forests.
