Imao Keinen (1845-1924) was an important Japanese artist of the Meiji era, known for his detailed and naturalistic depictions of birds and flowers. He belonged to the "Nihonga" school, a traditional Japanese style of painting that combined Western techniques with classical Japanese aesthetics. Keinen was fascinated by the beauty of nature in all its facets and captured it in fine brushstrokes and vivid colours. His works are characterised by a harmonious composition and great precision, reflecting both scientific observation and artistic sensitivity.
