This portrait shows a classic young woman on the dynamic streets of New York City, taken at a moment that feels both spontaneous and timeless. I met her by chance on Broadway, where I first took a candid photo of her and her friend as they unsuspectingly walked by. That small, unplanned moment set the stage for a brief but precious encounter. She then asked me if I wanted to take some additional photos of the two of them. Although I don't normally have much with posed portraits, this photo in particular appealed to me immediately.
Perhaps it was because of the short distance I could shoot from, or the subtle angle that gives her gaze and posture a natural elegance. Her relaxed look is a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city around her. I ended up being able to take a special portrait of her friend too, so this spontaneous encounter produced two valuable images.
Later, I sent her the photo. Her enthusiastic reaction confirmed to me that this image was more than just a snapshot: it became a personal memory for her, and for me a photo that I look back on with pleasure.
