Lavelanet in the French département of Ariège was once home to a flourishing textile industry. Today, the factories are no more - and only a museum keeps the memory of this traditional craft alive. The factories and manufactories from the 19th and 20th centuries sleep a deep slumber. The façades are peeling, the windows are covered in cobwebs and dust, the courtyard gates are rusting. And it was precisely at one of these gates that I took this photo, which fascinated me with its patterns and contrasts between sky blue and earthy rust - they also reflect the colours of the Midi: the pastel and the red earth, reminiscent of the fired clay tiles of the roofs.
