About the artwork

This girl is holding a male sheep that apparently doesn't deserve to be. The model is wearing a hat with cheerful flowers and in her yellow and red dress she has a deep cleavage which exposes her bosom half naked.

Jan van Bijlert, a Caravaggio painter from Utrecht, chooses a pastoral theme here, in contrast to the religious subjects and genre scenes of tavern interiors that are more common in this movement. With a palette of clear and bright tones, the painter succeeds, in addition to the melted contrasts of shadow and light, in reflecting the charm and lightness of the subject in a rural setting outside: indeed, the difficult grip of the ram causes a graceful swaying of the shepherdess, suggested by the movement of the curtains and supported by the round negligee of the breasts.

Jan Hermansz. van Bijlert (1597 or 1598 - Utrecht, 13 November 1671) was a Dutch painter who is considered one of the Utrecht Caravaggists. In his later life he painted classicist. He mainly painted genre pieces and portraits. Other names for him are Jan Harmensz. van Bijlert, Jan van Biler, Jan van Bylaert, Giovanni Bilardo and Jan van Bylert.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
