900 Years of Kamp Monastery in Kamp-Lintfort
In 1123, Kamp Monastery was the first Cistercian monastery in the German territory. The last monks moved out in 2001. However, the monastery continues to be a spiritual and cultural centre. Particularly distinctive is the terraced and baroque garden created in the 18th century after the Thirty Years' War, which is arranged in steps similar to Park Sanssouci in Potsdam. In 2020, Kamp Monastery, together with the present Kamp-Lintfort Colliery Park, was the core of the NRW State Garden Show in Kamp-Lintfort. A beautiful cycling and hiking path leads from the monastery to the colliery park near the city centre.
