900 years of Kamp Abbey in Kamp-Lintfort
In 1123, Kamp Abbey was the first Cistercian monastery in the German region. The last monks moved out in 2001. However, the monastery is still a spiritual and cultural centre. The terraced and baroque garden, which was created in the 18th century after the Thirty Years' War and is arranged in steps similar to Park Sanssouci in Potsdam, is particularly impressive. In 2020, Kamp Abbey, together with the current Kamp-Lintfort Colliery Park, was the centrepiece of the NRW State Garden Show in Kamp-Lintfort. A beautiful cycling and hiking trail leads from the monastery to the colliery park near the town centre.
