Karlovy Vary is a spa town in the west of the Czech Republic with a population of around 49,000. It is a world-famous spa town in the West Bohemian spa triangle in the Czech Republic. The town lies in the narrow, almost romantic valley of the River Teplá, surrounded by forest-clad mountains, not far from where it flows into the Ohře, on the southern edge of the Ore Mountains. Karlovy Vary is one of the West Bohemian spas. The picturesque spa town has very typical 19th century spa architecture. Many buildings were built in the Baroque or Art Nouveau style. Since 2021, Karlovy Vary has been a World Heritage Site as one of the ten most important spa towns in Europe. The springs in the idyllic, green Teplá Valley are said to be able to cure many metabolic and stomach complaints.
Several scenes from the Bond film 007 Casino Royale were filmed in Karlovy Vary. The city also hosts an internationally renowned film festival.
To summarise: Karlovy Vary is a city full of historical sights and interesting places that you should definitely visit.
