Kingfisher juggling prey on tree branch. Colourful portrait photo in autumn colours.
The kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) is a water-loving bird from the family of kingfishers (Alcedinidae). It is a striking appearance by its striking blue and orange colors, but also a very shy species that shows itself very little. Most kingfishers live in the tropics. The kingfisher is a typical fish-eater (piscivore) and is therefore strongly bound to water. It prefers flowing waters. The species is common in most of its range, but in some areas the kingfisher is threatened with extinction.
