In the French department of Côte-d'Or (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region), near Beaune, lies the village of Saint-Romain surrounded by high cliffs.
This photo was taken in the morning from the long cliff on the west side of the village (les falaises de saint-Romain), an impressive steep wall overlooking Saint-Romain. The picturesque French village flatters itself around the rock on the opposite side, with a rolling landscape of fields and vineyards beyond.
From here, it looks as if the cottages have tried to hide, huddled closely behind the rock. The road to Saint-Romain meanders through the valley to the next village.
The mist is just beginning to clear from the valleys, on the mountain in the upper left of the picture, patches of fog can still be seen between the trees. The low morning sun gives a warm colour and casts long shadows. It is a beautiful warm autumn day. The trees and shrubs still have their leaves, and the typical autumn colours only sparsely penetrate the landscape: here and there a tree turns orange-red, and some vineyards have found their autumn colours.
The high resolution makes it easy to see the numerous details in this panorama, making it a picture in which there is a lot to see. Especially in large format, you get the feeling of being right there and you can almost feel the soft balmy wind on your face.
