Three flamingos stride jauntily by, each with its own peculiar flair. The front one sticks up head and neck proudly, as if to show her most stately side. She carries an elegant parasol, neatly raised as if protecting herself from the sun - or from the commoners. Behind her walks a second flamingo, less graceful. With her beak deep in the earth and trainers on her legs, she seems oblivious to nothing. The third stands somewhat lost in a flowerpot, her long legs half-buried, wearing a loosely wrapped scarf as if she had just stepped out of a fashion magazine, but with mud on her beak.
Together they form a curious, almost absurd company: a queen with her not quite representative entourage.
The imagery is playful and sharp at the same time. It is reminiscent of upper-class ladies, who consider themselves exalted, but often unintentionally become the centre of subtle ridicule.
"Ladies of Stand" is thus both an ode and a wink - a portrait of outward display and the small, human flaws that pierce through it. A frozen moment full of humour, commentary and elegance with mud on its feet
