This painting is based on my own photograph taken during my trip through Scotland, found in my album of Islay. The Lagavulin distillery is depicted here in an expressive style very reminiscent of Vincent van Gogh's work.
The buildings are recognisable and firmly present, but the world around them is in flux. The sky swirls and undulates in strips of blue, white and soft yellow, applied in short, rhythmic brushstrokes. The water seems to vibrate, not in reflection but in feeling. The white facades of the distillery contrast with the vivid surroundings and almost seem to pulsate in the light.
The painting style is intense but never chaotic. The image exudes emotion, atmosphere and memory. This is not an exact representation of the place, but a personal interpretation of what I felt there. Wind, light, smell of peat and salt.
Combining my own photograph and this edit creates an image that hangs somewhere between perception and imagination. A tribute to the soul of Lagavulin, captured in colour and movement.
