About ‘Landscape – The green surf in the salty seawater.’ by Alies werk

This minimalist, abstract coastal landscape is composed of clean, horizontal layers with a strong sense of depth:

The Sky: A large, uniform light-blue area forms the upper half of the canvas. The clean blue lends the composition a sense of tranquillity, space and a fresh, open atmosphere.

The Horizon: A striking, bright lime-green stripe separates the sky from the foreground. This burst of colour breaks up the cool palette and gives the work a contemporary, almost graphic accent.

The Water and Beach: The lower section consists of layered, loose brushstrokes in icy blue, grey, white and dark shadow tones. It depicts a wet, salty water surface or the reflection on a cold mudflat.

The Depth Element: Running diagonally through the undercurrent is a row of dark, irregular structures — resembling wooden jetties or breakwaters on the beach — which gradually fade into the horizon, thereby creating a strong sense of depth.

The contrast between the austere upper half and the dynamic lower section gives the painting a serene yet powerful aura.
