Wetland in Knockadav in Galway, Ireland.
This is a turlough, turlag in Irish. A turlough is a seasonal or periodic body of water found mainly in limestone karst areas of Ireland, west of the River Shannon. The name comes from the Irish tur, meaning "dry" and loch, meaning "lake". The water bodies fill and empty with changes in groundwater levels, usually being very low or empty in summer and autumn and full in winter. As the water table drops, the water drains underground through cracks in the karst limestone.
Turloughs are actually found only in Ireland.
