This work shows the desolate landscape of the Atacama Desert under a semi-cloudy sky south of the coastal town of Antofagasta in northern Chile. It gives a very striking picture of one of the driest deserts on our planet.
We see a sandy plain with several large boulders and in the background a row of low hills. The boulders are angular in shape. This is characteristic of physical weathering. The cracking of a rock under the influence of large temperature differences is an example of physical weathering and is common in a hot desert like the Atacama. There is no trace of life in the picture. Brown colours in various gradations dominate the image. The photo exudes timelessness and infinity.
