This work shows a landscape with lava field and mountains in the desolate interior of Iceland. This is a totally desolate area lacking any trace of human activity. We see a field of dark lava grit on which bright green moss grows. The moss has created an interesting pattern of light and dark. In the background, a row of mountains, probably volcanoes. The weather is overcast with dark clouds, adding to the atmosphere of desolation and emptyness. In sunny weather, the image would become too friendly and less in keeping with my feeling about Iceland as a primordial world.
This work is a calm and contemplative work in somewhat cooler colours. It reflects well the emptiness and loneliness in this part of the world.
