The great wheel of the chariot at the Konark Sun Temple in India is an impressive masterpiece of ancient Indian sculpture. This huge granite-hewn wheel, which is about 3 metres in diameter, represents one of the 12 wheels that would have adorned the temple's sun chariot. The wheel is decorated with intriguing geometric patterns and detailed reliefs of divine figures and mythological scenes. The spokes of the wheel are carefully carved and are a brilliant example of the artistic and technical skills of the time. The wheel symbolises time and the movement of the sun and is a central element in the temple's architectural and spiritual message.
