Leeuwarden: NS station Leeuwarden. Where all trains from Friesland converge and are connected to the rest of the Netherlands. Besides the train connection, there are also a lot of bus connections here, due to the long shutter time these can be seen by the long light stripes. Photo was taken around 17:00 on Tuesday 13-12-2021. Leeuwarden Station was put into operation on 27 October 1863 with the opening of the Harlingen - Leeuwarden railroad line. This was the second railroad line put into operation by the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS). In 1866 the line was extended to Groningen. This was part of the Line B constructed by the State of the Netherlands, from Harlingen to Nieuweschans (completed in 1868).In 1868, the connection Zwolle - Meppel - Heerenveen - Leeuwarden was also completed (part of the railroad Arnhem - Leeuwarden), which gave the Friesian capital a direct rail connection with the rest of the country. This was part of the Line A from Arnhem to Leeuwarden constructed by the State of the Netherlands in 1865-1868. The railroad line Zwolle - Leeuwarden was electrified in 1952.The railroad line Leeuwarden - Sneek - Stavoren was put into operation by the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HSM) in 1883-1885 as part of the connection between Amsterdam and the Friesian capital, via the route Amsterdam - Enkhuizen - Stavoren - Leeuwarden.
