This strange looking fish is a frogfish. They are named like this because the first back spine is transformed into a movable rod with a bait-like appendage at the end. This lures prey that they can swallow in a fraction of a second. Another characteristic of frogfish is that their pectoral fins are transformed into feet with little toes. They can walk around with it. This species was only five centimeters in size and I photographed it during a night dive near Lembeh on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. In the background you can see the typical environment of the underwater world in Lembeh. I added both photos together using the image-to-image function in the camera.
