Léon François Comerre (1850-1916) was a French academic painter who is best known for his portraits and genre scenes. His works are characterised by the depiction of graceful, sumptuously dressed women in luxurious, often exotic settings. Comerre was part of the Orientalism movement and was inspired by the art and culture of the Middle East. His ability to masterfully render the texture of fabrics and the luminosity of skin is particularly remarkable. His works were regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon and reflect the sensual style of the Belle Époque.
