The Lighthouse and cottages are one of the most recognisable symbols of Texel. This unique combination of a lighthouse and a number of small cottages stands like a wake in the North Sea and symbolises the beauty of the island. The first stone of the lighthouse was laid on 25 July 1863. The various cottages around the lighthouse were built in the 19th century and were used as sleeping quarters for the lighthouse keepers and their families. The cottages are all different in style and colour, which makes them extra charming and unique. Today, most of the cottages have been converted into modern, comfortable holiday homes that offer stunning views of the North Sea. There are also several routes that pass by the lighthouse and cottages, allowing you to see this unique place up close.
