Slot Loevestein is part of the NIeuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. The Minister of Engelshoven has nominated the New Dutch Waterline for the Unesco World Heritage List.
Loevestein is a castle and fortress, which falls under the municipality of Zaltbommel, and just northwest of the village of Poederoijen is located at the end of the Schouwendijk in the floodplains of the Waal and the Afgedamde Maas.
Knight Dirc Loef van Horne ordered the construction of the castle around 1357. He used it as a residence, from where he could carry out raids and take illegal tolls. ..Wikipedia
