This long-eared owl sits with about 8 other long-eared owls in the middle of a residential area in Gelderland, the Netherlands. They are very curious and follow everything that happens under the tree. With the big eyes, they are very cute. The distinctive "ears" are not real ears, but ear tufts. The scientific name of the long-eared owl is Asio Otus, which means ear owl. The long-eared owl's ear tufts are hidden on either side of its skull, but its plumage is so dense that they are not that noticeable.
This long-eared owl sits among autumn leaves in the sun, creating a beautiful soft bokeh in autumn colours.
