Lupin in bloom
Lupin (Lupinus) is a genus of the butterfly family (Fabaceae). The genus has about 200 species[1] and has many hybrids and cultivars. In northwest Europe only the solid lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus) is found in the wild. This species was imported from North America in the 19th century.
Most lupines are purple, white and pink coloured, but yellow is no exception. By crossing, combinations of these colours are also possible. Lupines do not like calcareous soil. They prefer acidic to neutral soils.
Depending on the species, they can reach a height ranging from 50 cm to as much as 2 m and the flowering period can last from June to October. (wikipedia)
