Magdeburg – Autumn in Herrenkrug Park

When autumn transforms Herrenkrugpark in Magdeburg into a sea of vibrant colours, nature reveals its most picturesque side. This atmospheric photograph captures a moment that uniquely combines the beauty of autumn with the historic charm of our city. At the centre is the historic pergola, overgrown with wild vine, also known as virgin’s vine (Parthenocissus). In autumn, the leaves of this climbing plant turn intense shades of red and purple, transforming the historic structure into an impressive work of natural art. Like a canopy of flames, the vibrant red blankets the pergola, creating a fascinating contrast to the elegant architecture.

The interplay of artistic design and autumnal splendour lends this place an almost romantic atmosphere. You can almost feel the tranquillity of the park, hear the rustling of the leaves and enjoy the crisp autumn air.
