Masks is an artwork from the Basix series
Sometimes I write or sketch ideas that look like archetypes. I enlarge the best scribbles to make a series of paintings out of them. Then by just reducing, stylising and simplifying with minimal use of colour, a kind of "basics" (Basix) are created.
With this style, I aim for a kind of timelessness from cave drawing to modern art.
Almost all my works I first start manually with a sketch then I painted the background;
then I use solid lines to paint the simplified icon over it.
Finally, the final result is digitally post-processed for the reproduction of Werk aan de muur
Art should surprise, inspire and for me, being allowed to make art is not work but oxygen why I live.
With creative greetings Joan
