These rusty steel forts stand in the mouth of the River Themes and exude a "war of the worlds" like atmosphere. Artillery used to be mounted on these forts and they were used by the British to shell the Germans who wanted to bomb London.
After the war, they lost their function and because of their location, it was too costly to demolish them. They have since been left to the ravages of time and are slowly rotting away. It was an amazing experience to be able to admire them so close up from the boat we had specially chartered to take these images.
Launching (but especially landing) the drone from the boat was quite a challenge. Fortunately, I got it back in one piece which allowed me to add some extra perspectives on this piece of Second World War history to the large photo.
