About the artwork

The designation W 114 and W 115 differ as follows:
W114 = 6 cylinders (petrol only)
W115 = 4 cylinders (petrol and diesel)
Otherwise, these models W 114 and W 115 are all the same in construction, including the length. In terms of performance, the small 200 D was the most popular model. At the top of the scale was the 280 CE Coupé with 185 hp/136 KW which can also be seen in the picture below. And there was also a Pullman long version.

The Mercedes-Benz /8 (dash-8) was popularly called that because it corresponded to the year of its release, 1968. And it also became popular because of the high number of new registrations, and because for a short time it knocked the Golf 1 off the top spot of the best-selling cars in West Germany. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz taxi version was the only one produced as a diesel car and thus had a monopoly position in Germany in the 1970s. But also in foreign markets, especially in North Africa, they were mostly used as taxis. In total, almost 2 million units were sold between 1967 and 1976, 67,048 of which were coupés.

Paul Bracq, who had also designed the Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda W 113 and W 108/109, was responsible for the design.
