Metropolis was made in Rotterdam's metro. Looking in the direction of view, between the seats you can see a spaceman on his way home from his space journey. He is wearing an orange spacesuit, with a white helmet. Further into the foreground, you see two travellers sitting opposite each other with their shoes, both from Nike, almost touching. The picture is fairly dark with two rows of lights in the ceiling of the train carriage leading the viewer to the spaceman.
Dystopian and alienating, the work was created from a basic photo, playing with colour schemes and colour use. The complementary colours of orange and blue were deliberately chosen.
Photographer William Rutten said of this work that it is Fine Art Photography and fits within any modern interior. If you want a beautiful photo that is sure to invite conversation and is a real eye-catcher, then this is a work for you!
