Michael Wolgemut (1434 in Nuremberg; Nov. 30, 1519; also Michael Wohlgemut or Michael Wohlgemuth) was a painter and a master of woodcuts. He was a pupil of Hans Pleydenwurff and the most important representative of the older Frankish school, as well as a role model and teacher for Albrecht Dürer.
He also worked on the design of his palace in Wittenberg commissioned by the Saxon Elector Frederick the Wise. His work in Wittenberg was lost due to the effects of war. So was a portrait of his patron, Elector Frederick the Wise.
