The Milky Way over the Chiemgau Alps with the pyramid-shaped silhouette of the Sonntagshorn, the highest peak in this area. The picture was taken from the Kienberg, during one of those rare, warm summer nights, when there was no wind at all. The many stars made it an unforgettable experience to spend this night on the mountain.
What a pity that it has become so difficult nowadays to see the stars. We are surrounded everywhere by artificial light that almost makes the stars disappear. We should take the time to think about the size of the universe and the number of stars much more often. This makes us humble and allows us to see ourselves in the right proportion. How small we are, and how temporary. How precious and unique life on earth is.
Capturing an image of the Milky Way is no easy task. In addition to having the right equipment and knowing how to take such a photo, you also need the right timing, and then the weather has to play along, which unfortunately often is not the case in the Alps. On this night, everything was just right.
