The windmill has been on the maps of Leerdam since 1640, but today it is still running at full speed. The windmill is situated right between the other icons of Leerdam, such as the Linge Bridge, the glass factory and the centre of Leerdam.
History of the Ter Leede Mill
Windmill Ter Leede is a so-called smock mill. This is the oldest type of polder windmill in the Netherlands. A typical feature of these mills is that the entire upper storey can be rotated. In the past, they were almost always used as polder mills, i.e. to keep the polder dry.
