The 'Mintered Garden' stretches across the picturesque mid-south of England. When I visited this enchanting landscape, I could not resist sketching some views of this extensive garden. This "garden" is actually more of a park of impressive scale and timeless beauty. After returning to Berlin, I immersed myself in these sketches and created fascinating paintings in the studio.
The present painting may seem unremarkable at first glance, but it holds an extraordinary fascination when you look closer. The fine details of the leaves, the mysterious shades under the trees and the organic surface of the pond are extremely inviting. The sky shows up in an unusual turquoise, perhaps not quite as blue as in reality, but that is characteristic of my penchant for bold colours and colour combinations.
