Mission accomplished! A beautiful male kingfisher just left the water with a small fish. The black background and the splashing water droplets really create for a stunning image! This amazing little bird, with a length of approx. 16 cm, has a striking blue colored upper feather deck while the under part is yellow. The difference between male and female is in the beak: females beak is partly orange (lower part) while the male's beak is completely black. They mainly feed on fish, caught by diving. During the dive a cover membrane protects their eyes while they still can see the fish. Common kingfishers are highly territorial but most of them migrate during the winter.
This stunning image would look great in a nice frame and passe-partout at your wall.
