This photo was taken one morning in January, shortly before sunrise. Moments earlier, it was still foggy but that fog is now slowly receding. But the buildings on the Kop van Zuid, across the river Maas, are still shrouded in mist.
The lights of the historic ships in the Leuvehaven add atmosphere to the scene, which is enhanced by the colourful elements like the wheelhouse of the harbour crane, the flat-bottomed boat at the front left and the stairwells of the residential towers. The mirror-smooth water completes the magic.
And if you look very closely, you can see the Erasmus Bridge, this time in a very modest role....
