Mona Lisa (also called La Gioconda) is the title of a work by Leonardo da Vinci painted probably between 1503 and 1506, which now hangs in the Louvre. The technique used is oil on panel (poplar wood). It is the portrait of a lady, probably Lisa Gherardini or in full Lisa di Antonmaria Gherardini di Montagliari, the third wife of Francesco del Giocondo, who probably commissioned the painting. It is one of the few works that is certain to be by Leonardo himself. As one of the most famous works of art in the world, it gets around 20,000 visitors a day. http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Lisa Public domain
