Morning on the Elbe (1827), Carl Gustav Carus Barge Trip on the Elbe near Dresden. The Saxon painter Carl Gustav Carus reserved a place for the viewers of this painting in the stern of the boat. From here, two figures can be seen from behind, an elegant woman and an equally smart boater who has put aside his top hat and cane. They are taking in the sight of Dresden’s skyline. A friend of Caspar David Friedrich, Carus was also a doctor and natural philosopher.
